Dr Waqas Awan is a molecular biologist specializing in the field of bioinformatics. Dr Awan holds a PhD in Structural Bioinformatics from the University of Cambridge, an MRes in Bioinformatics from the University of Leeds. He is also an Associate of the Royal College of Science having gained a BSc from Imperial College, London. He is currently Bioinformatics Group Leader at Genseq Ltd. where he and his team are developing a platform for offering personalised genomics services. Prior to his current appointment, Dr Awan helped set up Lumophore Ltd, a UK-based biotech consulting company, and initiated several collaborative projects with the Malaysia Genome Institute. During his doctoral research, he was a core developer for the European Molecular Biology Open Software Suite (EMBOSS); a major bioinformatics open source project based at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI). He has also worked for GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer. |
