Dr. Umi is currently the director of the Biotechnology Research Centre at the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI). She is also a senior principal researcher with research interest in molecular understanding of fruit ripening, flower senescence and genetic engineering of papaya and orchid for shelf-life improvement. She has been active in research collaborations at the national and international levels and has served in several national committees and review panels for government funded projects in agricultural biotechnology. She received her PhD from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom in plant molecular biology and MSc in biochemistry from the University of Illinois, USA. |
