Dr. Dirk Wilken is currently the Head of Research and Development at BioPlanta GmbH in Leipzig, Germany. To his responsibilities belong national and international projects in the field of research and development of plant active substances for pharmaceutical applications as well as quality management and chemical analysis of plant metabolites. From 2000 to 2006 he was managing BioPlanta’s new “Phytochemicals” department. Although he worked in quite different areas (business development, marketing, analytics) he spend most of these years in the development of biotechnical processes for the production of plant active substances. Dr. Wilken is author of various scientific publications. BioPlanta was awarded the Leipzig Innovation Prize and the Innovation Prize from the Free State of Saxony for technologies developed under his leadership. Dr. Wilken holds a diploma in chemistry from the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg. Here, he also received his PhD (magna cum laude) in the research group of Professor Gunter Israel and in close cooperation with the research and development department of the Agfa-Gevaert AG in Leverkusen, Germany.
