EU-Malaysia Biotechnology Business Partnership
2007 (EUM-BIO) is a Business Match Making project co-funded by the Asia Invest II Programme of the European Commission (EC) and
is jointly promoted by Malaysian Industry-Government Group for
High Technology (MiGHT) and two European Partners, i.e. European
Association for Bioindustries (EuropaBio) from Belgium and Association
for the BioPharmaceutical Industry (BioFarmind) from The Netherlands.
The main objective of this project is to establish long term
business and technology co-operation by arranging one-on-one partnering
meetings between biotech companies and research institutions (inclusive
of universities) from the 25 member states of EU and Asia/Malaysia
to formalise business partnership such as technology transfer, R&D,
trading of biotech products, venture capital investment, contract
manufacturing, contract research, etc., via the event. The emphasis
will be on Bio-agriculture, Bio-healthcare, Bio-manufacturing and
Bioinformatics. The project is timely and aligns with the EU-Malaysia
agenda to promote the biotechnology industry.
Objectives:
a)
|
To increase economic co-operation between EU and
Malaysian biotech companies by organising direct business partnering
opportunities for trade, investment, technology co-operation
or technical assistance in the biotechnology industry. |
| |
|
b)
|
To strengthen the capacity among EU and Malaysian
biotech companies via several business familiarisation activities
and create the basis for new long-term partnerships within four
selected sub-sectors i.e. Bio-agriculture, Bio-healthcare, Bio-manufacturing
and Bioinformatics. |
About Asia Invest Programme
Asia Invest is an European Union (EU) initiative that aims to promote
and support business co-operation between companies in EU and Asia.
The programme provides assistance to intermediary organisations to
facilitate mutually beneficial partnerships between companies, in
particular small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as to
strengthen the business environment to increase trade and investment
flows between the two regions. It supports economic co-operation between
Europe and Asia through business to business match-making opportunities,
partnership-building and capacity strengthening activities.
Asia-Invest was launched in 1998 and has since entered its second
phase of implementation for 2006-2007 with a Commission contribution
of EUR 20 000 000.
